I have about a 2E foot so most wrestling shoes will work for me. A 2E foot is not really that wide that it prevents you from buying most shoes off the rack at a wrestling store. All you have to do is stay away from a shoe with a velcro lace cover that covers all the shoe laces and stay away from anything with a zipper. Or at least go into your purchase knowing that those parts will have to stretch most likely to fit a wider foot.
So what shoes make sense for a wide foot maybe in the 2E size or less? It’s probably easier to identify which ones don’t make sense. Don’t look at an adidas adistar, don’t look at a Response I or II or an adistrike. All of these have zippers or lace guard mechanisms that cover all the laces. With that said you can make these shoes work (in fact I have a pair of Sydney 2000′s that don’t follow my advice). I just had to deal with the extra stretching and wearing them a little looser to begin with and keep tightening them. For example, we had a customer come in the store that said he could not get the white adistar to work. I told him to just tighten up the laces and he was able to get the zipper to work.
No if you are in the 3E 4E and larger zone. You want to look at really only our wide shoes. Response GT and Split Second VI are the two options you want to work with. Understand if you are 4E or 5E or 6E even those shoes are going to require some breaking in period. You will have to wear the laces loose and allow the material to stretch. The Response GT is made of more stretchable leather so that might be the better option for wrestlers with really wide feet.
Here are some of the wide wrestling shoes that we recommend taking a look at.
