Every club has wrestlers at different levels of physical condition. What is too much for one athlete may be too little for another. Some kids have more drive and desire to reach their potential. What I do is take make sons and sometimes a couple of their friends (8-12 year olds) who want to do a little extra work and have them train an extra 15-20 minutes after practice. The best exercises are plyometrics like squat jumping, knee up jumps, box jumping, leaping, and the medicine ball. Other exercises are pull-ups, explosive push-ups, sprints, and any other high intensity exercises the kids can safely handle. 30-60 seconds of work, equal amount of rest. You do not need to be a coach to help your children get into condition and improve their performance (and self-esteem). Another tip is to have them jump rope before the session starts, this lets them run a little harder because they are already warm-up. They like to play kill the man with the ball, sock, or whatever they have, but sometimes it gets out of hand (and I am afraid someone will get hurt). Everyone have a successful and safe season!
